ICT

The Information Communication and Technology Center is a place where people are trained to use technology to help people in poverty. So far they have three laptops with over 30,000 pages of information set up to educate people.

The ICT Center. This space was donated to GouF by the local government.

Meeting with an elected official. I think it was a lot of pomp and circumstance however. We have been told by several NGO workers here that the local government is corrupt and highly inefficient.

Two mobile ladies and one mobile man. These people are awesome!! They have mobile phones and laptops with information regarding farming, agriculture, hygiene, livestock, disease, etc. They go around the 17 different villages to collect data and distribute data. They also use their phones to contact doctors in Dhaka for specific patients. One of the women is a nurse and she can write prescriptions as well. They have helped a lot of people.

The women were demonstrating how they memorize the information about the villages - by making up a song. They sang it to us and it was great.

This woman was suffering from a skin disease for 6 years. She was not able to work or because of the pain in her foot. She went to the local clinic twice but was only receiving ineffective, expensive operations. The mobile women helped her by contacting a special doctor in Dhaka and having her speak to them. She then was able to get the appropriate prescription and is 100% better! Without the treatment, her husband said he was going to divorce her and get a new wife.

I love this picture. This woman had incredible courage. She had a disease of the uterus and suffered for 5 years with bleeding and no treatment. She was completely shunned by her husband. It took her four months of coxing from these women for her to have the faith to consent to talk to a doctor. She was given some prescriptions and an injection and has been showing signs of complete recovery. She is so optimistic now! She told us that before she had no desire to eat or sleep but now she is well and food is tasty to her!

Jason has been adopted as "brother"

And these women have adopted me as "sister"...
