It was nice to walk because we could stop and talk with the farmers and see their different situations and techniques. But wow is it hot here!!
These people were very happy to meet with us. They seemed to enjoy their lives a bit more and have better hygiene than the previous village.
We met three women who had received micro loans from GouF. This is Salima Khatun. She was repaying a loan to lease land that her husband now farms. The food he produces gives her family much more security. Before, there would be days they had to fast because they were poor. She was a wage laborer but it did not pay well. But now she can eat rice three times each day and she can afford to send her children to school.
Rokya Begum received $215 to buy a cow to fatten. She is expecting to sell her cow in the market for $320.
Zohra Bibi borrowed about $150 to invest in her son's mechanic business. Before, her son was an apprentice. But from the loan he got the finances to start his own business and he is an expert! She is a happy mother and she can eat more rice too.
I was helping a woman make fried cakes! They were all greatly amused by this.
Eating the cakes we made! (They told Jason to smooch me because it's our anniversary.)
I had a great time trying out their rice grinder! They put a sari on me so I could look more authentic I suppose :)
